"Roar" is the lead single from Katy Perry's fourth studio album, Prism (2013) and was released on August 10, 2013. It's a power pop song with lyrics centering around standing up for oneself and self-empowerment. "Roar" was Perry's sixth global number one smash and became a total of 9.396.000 points. It peaked also at number one in various countries, including USA (with 557.000 sales in the first week), United Kingdom (180.000 sales in its initial week), Australia, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. Additionally, it also reached the top five in most international charts, including France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Switzerland. Grady Hall and Mark Kudsi directed the song's music video, which features Perry trying to adapt to the jungle where she survived a plane crash, and taming a tiger.
